FOURTH NORTH OF 60 MOVIE

"ANOTHER COUNTRY" STARTS PRODUCTION

Program celebrating its 10th year

Lynx River imposes its own form of justice when the urban legal system traps the town's respected young chief, Teevee Tenia (Dakota House), in a Calgary jail in Another Country, an all-new North of 60 mystery. The two-hour television movie marks 10 years of the North of 60 franchise. Principal photography takes place in Calgary and Bragg Creek, Alberta from March 14 through April 10, 2002.

Another Country's audience watches Teevee on what starts out as an exciting business trip to Calgary, following him through the city's bistros and back streets and finally, into hell. He finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time when a troubled young native woman reaches out to him for help, setting him up for a murder by someone who knows the system well. Teevee is the perfect fall guy -- young, alone, and better yet, native. He struggles to hold his own in the urban justice system while RCMP Corporal Michelle Kenidi (Tina Keeper) frantically searches for clues that will clear him of the murder charges. But her efforts are thwarted and Teevee's survival is on the line when he escapes and flees to Lynx River, leaving Michelle with a terrible choice: to turn him in, or betray the justice system around which she's built her career. Her only defence is to uncover the truth.

"We wanted to explore what happens when someone from Lynx River goes to 'another country'--in this is case, predominantly-white Southern Alberta," says Executive Producer Doug MacLeod. "It's an exciting, dramatic story that is fitting to mark our 10th anniversary of production."

It also offers an opportunity to use the extensive acting talents of Dakota House says Executive Producer Tom Cox. "It's a great evolution of Teevee's character and certainly Dakota has proven himself ready for the challenge as an actor."

Written by the North of 60 veteran writing duo, Andrew Wreggitt (Tom Stone, Dream Storm) and Peter Lauterman (North of 60, Cover Me), Another Country will be directed by Gary Harvey (Tom Stone, Cold Squad).

Another Country will feature will feature the strong ensemble cast from the North of 60 series including Wilma Pelly as Elsie, Timothy Webber as Harris, Lubomir Mykytiuk as Gerry, Jimmy Herman as Joe Gomba, and Tina Louise Bomberry as Rosie.

Another Country is an Alberta Filmworks Production in association with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and with the participation of the Canadian Television Fund: Equity Investment and License Fee Programs (Telefilm Canada), the CanWest Western Independent Production Fund, The Alberta Foundation for the Arts Film Development Program and the Canadian Film and Video Tax Credit.
